Marvel's Next Reboot

So at this years comic-con they decided to reboot both the Fantastic 4 and the Daredevil movies, after the obvious success of the Nolan's Batman film and the Spiderman reboot.

Now Fox still owns the rights to both franchises. However, Fox will lose the rights to the Daredevil franchise if they haven't begun filming by October 2012. After trying to get the reboot up and running Fox gave up on it, after losing its director. They gave up and were prepared to let the rights revert. Marvel studios have stated that they would produce the film independently if needed. I think a Daredevil reboot would be perfect seeing how it is already quite gritty in the comics

DareDevil Reboot
A Small Fan-made Poster I through together
Now in 2008, Jason Statham expressed interest in the role of Daredevil. While doing the research for this article (I'm not sure if I could actually call this an article) I read that he wanted to be Daredevil and I nearly choked on my milkshake in surprise. within the past few years Statham's become an action hero and I don't think he'll ever be able to shake that off. Plus, Daredevil's not an action hero, he's a lot like Batman in a sense. He believes in justice and integrity, Action hero's are all about kicking ass with guns blazing. Sure DD is a badass but Matt Murdock has heart and I just couldn't see him playing the role well.....see what I did there..'couldnt see him'.....get it? because he's blind.

So I put together (and copied other people's) a list of who I think could play the main roles.
  1. I put Simon Baker as Matt Murdock because ever since that episode of the Mentalist where he's is blinded from an explosion I've always thought he'd do the role justice.
  2. Vincent D'onofrio would play the Kingpin. He just has this menacing look in his eyes and his tall and heavy build fits the kingpin's stature, despite how some version just portray him as fat.
  3. Zachary Quinto as Bullseye. In a Daredevil reboot they wouldn't go straight for the arch-nemesis because if they wanted to go with a sequel who could he fit, he's all ready faced the main villain. Though I got lazy and couldn't be bothered looking up other villain so I just went with Bullseye.

Fantastic 4 Reboot

It was pretty late when I got to the second half of this piece so I really didn't put as much effort into this. The rights to the Fantastic 4 franchise slip from Fox's fingers in 2015 if they haven't started filming, giving them much more time to make the reboot. However, Fox had tried to make a deal where they would hand back the rights earlier if they got extended time on the rights to Daredevil.

So I put together the four actors who I think could play the lead roles. Four actors who could really make the film gritty and filled with realism, or as realistic you can get with a man who is made of rock.
  1. David Duchovny as Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic. Duchovny really gets that worn out scientist look about him. In the reboot Reed Richards would be a child genius and considered a future Einstien. He studies extensively in science during college. It is here he meets Ben Grimm and Susan Storm, whom he instantly falls in love with but is too scared to tell her. Grimm frequently jokingly pokes fun at him for this. In his later years at college Richards becomes convinced that there is cosmic material and chemicals in space that are just within his reach but he finds it hard to convince others of this theory. He looks less like the stereotypical science geek and looks more relaxed, similar to how Duchovny looks like in his tv-show Californication.
  2. Stana Katic as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman. Now I'll be honest, the main reason I picked her was because I had a dream where it the was the reboot of the film and she played the role. Her realistic background would probably begin with her being the child prodigy to her successful father, who is doctor. she becomes a star child, while her little brother is left in the vast shadow she casts. In the later years of her adolescent she moves to college to study science. While she is gone her mother dies in a car crash. She considers moving back home but her father encourages her to focus on her studies at college. While at college she meets Reed Richards. They continue to have an close friendship, though Richards secret loves, and eventually work together in an Astrophysics lab for NASA. She also joins him on the space voyage.
  3. Michael Chriklis as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Ben was a star football player in high school and with decent grades he gets a scholarship to college. It is here he meets Reed Richards and they soon become best friends. After College Ben joins the Air Froce and works his way up the ranks to become a respected miltary Aviator. However it is within this time frame the two drift apart due to their different career moves. When Richards is chosen to travel into space requests Ben Grimm pilots the ship, which Ben accepts. they instantly reconnect and become best friends again.
  4. Jamie Bell as Johnny Storm. Growing up in Susan's shadow Johnny found little reason to work hard at anything, failing his grades and dropping out of school. Despite Susan moving out he is still neglected by his parents. After the death of his mother his father becomes severely depressed and an alcoholic, later commiting suicide. Johnny leaves and cuts all communication with Susan and soon dropping off the grid. A few years later he is deported back to America from Singapore, having travelled across the world in an attempt to restart his life. With Johnny back home Susan attempts to reconnect with him but Johnny is reluctant to do the same. Johnny returns home just before they the travel to space and Susan convinces Reed to join them on the flight, thinking sharing such a fantastic experience will bring her and johnny together.
I think a plot like that could make a reboot of Fantastic 4 work...

What do you think?
